Cleaning
Clean the vents from any accumulated dust by vacuuming the unit or using a can of compressed air to blow dust away from the vents. Be careful not to scratch the projector. If the environment you have is dusty; dust can accumulate inside the projector and can cause issues for internal components over time. For example, dusty projector fans can cause hissing noises or worse, too much dust may prevent sufficient air flow within the projector and cause the projector to overheat and shutdown.
Clean the front lens with camera optic cleaning supplies. It is best not to use any liquid solvents especially for high end projectors as there is typically a coating on the projector lens; and liquid will disturb the coating and potentially cause image issues with the quality of the projected image. For safety; it's best to use a dry chamois to dust off the lens with gentleness. Do not use any abrasives or harsh chemicals at any time on your projector or lens. Your projector is not water proof.
Temperature Considerations
Refer to projector datasheet if you are concerned about either extreme cold or extreme hot temperature environments; the datasheet will indicate what is the temperature range supported by your specific model projector.
Be mindful that in nearby windy beach environments, salt may be more present in the nearby air and such may accidentally enter into projector vents causing unwanted early degradation of your projector. It is best to ensure your projector is in a well ventilated area and is kept away from harsh elements of nature. Damage or acts of God are not covered in your warranty and will void your warranty.
Lamp maintenance
Replace the lamp when needed or when the image is less bright than desired or when the lamp warning indicator lights up. Refer to your specific model projector's user manual for specific lamp replacement instructions. You may purchase replacement lamps at Optoma USA if the lamp model you have is still in stock and not obsolete.
Projector positioning
It is not advisable to use your projector in a position that is not supported as it may produce unwanted results as non standard installation may affect the projector performance. The physical components of the projector/ventilation and ports etc. were designed as is with specific supported positions developed for best usage. Your projector is designed to be installed in specific positions, see your projector manual for specific supported projector install positions.
Projector extended daily usage
For lamp based projectors; it is advisable to turn off the projector at least once during a 24 hour period. This short rest period helps with the longevity of your lamp based projector.
Projector warm up and cool down cycles
It is normal for your lamp based projector to take several seconds (typically 90 seconds or less) to warm up when the projector is powered on. As the projector lamp warms up; the image projected on the screen will become brighter and will be at its brightest when the warm up sequence is completed. When the projector is completely on; the power indicator will be in the powered on state.
It is normal for your lamp based projector to take several seconds (typically 90 seconds or less) to cool down when the projector is powered off. As the projector lamp cools down you may hear the projector fans more noticeable more during this cool down sequence. When the projector is completely off; you should not hear the fans and the power indicator will be in the powered off state. When switching the projector off, please ensure the cooling cycle has been completed before disconnecting power (this also means ensuring cooling cycle is completed before disconnecting power cord or switching off your power strip where the projector was connected.)
Please refer to your specific projector model's user manual for specific LED indicators for power LED, Lamp LED and temperature LED. LED indicators are either flashing, solid or not lit with their respective colors. Specific LED light patterns will indicate if your projector is experiencing a failure. Contact Optoma USA technical support if your projector happens to experience a failure within its warranty period.
