Nothing is wrong with the projector that has these legacy video ports. Some DVD players do not automatically detect what type of connection is being used, so the connection type must be manually changed for the DVD player to send out the correct type of signal.
Consult your DVD player’s manual for instructions on how to change the output signal type.
