Can my projector display HDTV

Yes, Optoma projectors are able to accept HDTV signal (*720p/*1080i/*1080p) via the component/DVI/HDMI based on the projector model.

Check to make sure the projector has *HDCP capabilities on the DVI/HDMI port.

HDCP is protocol and stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection. HDCP purpose is to prevent the unauthorized copying of digital audio and video content as it travels across connections. In essence it prevents movie piracy across digital connections.

A laptop simply displaying its laptop background is considered non-HDCP content.

However, a media player or a blu ray player playing a movie is HDCP content.

Most Optoma projectors will be labeled "HDMI 1.4" or "HDMI 2.0" port; they refer to HDMI 1.4 standard or HDMI 2.0 standard respectively. Both these HDMI standards supports HDCP.

Please note there are differences in HDCP, there is HDCP 1.4 and HDCP 2.2.

HDMI 1.4 standard supports HDCP 1.4 while HDMI 2.0 standard supports HDCP 2.2

HDMI 2.0 standard is backwards compatible with older HDMI standards. Please note however, that newer HDMI devices would need to support HDCP 2.2 in order to display new content. Newer HDMI source devices will show an error message on the screen if there is any HDCP compatibility issues that it detects.

Common rule with HDCP is that the same HDCP protocol must supported in every device in the same signal path for content to be displayed.

HDMI 1.4 standard has ideal usage for older source devies; while HDMI 2.0 standard is more commonly used with newer source devices that use that same standard of support. Reason for this is because newer source devices can support higher resolutions etc. or more bandwidth from their HDMI ports; hence the newer HDMI standards have better support for higher resolutions and typically faster refresh rates (please always check the projector data sheet for the specific resolutions and specific refresh rates that were manufactured into your projector product)
