An Ultra short throw (UST) projector emphasizes cinematic immersion, space-saving design, and premium, TV-like convenience.
UST projectors as the modern, high-end alternative to a large television. This type of projector that is designed to fit in incredibly close spaces on average being placed around 3 to 12 inches away from your screen or wall in order to project a large image.
Often times these types of projectors will have the lens full inset into the body of the projector itself, and when measuring distance from the screen to the projector we measure from the closest edge of the body instead of the lens like more traditional models. Here is an example of an Ultra Short Throw projector, the CinemaX P2 shown below:

When using an Ultra Short Throw Projector like the above CinemaX P2, you can see in our Projection Calculator tool that you can create an image that is 100" diagonally long when placing it simply 9.84 inches away from the screen:
With an Ultra Short throw model, placement is very important, as any sort of minor adjustment you may make to the body of the projector can have quite a large effect on the screen, such as causing the image to shift and no longer appear square.
It is also important to know that with an Ultra Short Throw projector you will see a large Offset to help with making the image as large as possible, so you will need to plan your placement of your projector and screen appropriately. For more information on what Offset is, you can read our article on the subject here.
